Site Director: Steve Cornell

Steve Cornell has been coaching basketball in the East Bay for over 30 years. He started coaching his daughters in CYO / AAU in 1992. Cornell coached at Monte Vista for 16 years as JV girls head coach and Varsity assistant. During this time he lead his teams to impressive victories, six EBAL league championships, two NCS championships and a Nor Cal championship.

Coach Cornell coached at Acalanes High School for 3 years as JV girls coach and Varsity assistant winning 2 DFAL championships. His success did not go unnoticed as he was offered to coach boys at San Ramon Valley High School in 2020. He accepted this opportunity to coach boys at the freshman level for 2 years going 27-12 during that time .

Then Monte Vista offered him the opportunity to return and take over the Varsity Girl’s coaching job in 2022 . Cornell returned to the school where he first started his high school coaching career. Coach Cornell achieved his 400th high school win during this season by going 26-7 . His team won the NCS championship and led the team to a NorCal semi final appearance.

Coach Cornell’s passion for basketball is evident in the way he talks about his players and games. His goal as a coach is to instill basic basketball fundamentals that are beneficial to each player and to have fun . Teaching players to know how to be a good teammate and accept their role on team , as all players are important to the success of team . By doing all of this he creates a culture of hard work and teamwork that leads to the belief anything can be achieved if you put your mind to it .
